FIRST LADY OF TOWN MOOR
History was made at Doncaster Town Moor Golf Club in February when Mrs Juliet Swinbourne was elected Honorary President, the first lady to serve in the role since its establishment in 1895.
Juliet replaced Jim Pickersgill who was praised for navigating the club through the difficulties of the Covid disruption.
Juliet’s election also sees her become the first female club President within the Doncaster golfing community. She is looking to build upon the club’s accomplishments and hopes to continue to grow the club membership.
The club, whose course famously is enclosed by the rails of the racecourse, has already been celebrated by member Mrs Irene Chesterton – now approaching her 103rd birthday – being recognised as the oldest actively handicapped lady golfer in England when she was 101.
It promises to be a busy year for Juliet. Doncaster Town Moor will be hosting the annual Danum Cup this year, when the best golfers from Wheatley and Doncaster will visit to compete. It will also see the club celebrate the 100th year of the TW Plant Cup established in 1923 by the then president TW Plant.
Juliet has served as Lady Captain, Trustee and Marketing Manager during her time as a member of the club. Mr Mick Jones was also appointed to the position of Captain for the 23/24 season and Mrs Kath Smith was named Lady Captain.
