Hanson starts season comeback

Yorkshire’s Chris Hanson picked up his first cheque in nine tournaments at the weekend (August 19) with a joint 45th place finish at the Nordea Masters.

The Woodsome Hall member had been well positioned after rounds of 68 and 67 to make his first cut since the Volvo China Open at the end of April, but a 3rd round 78 knocked him out of contention for the bigger cheques. A closing 67 lifted him back up the ladder but the prize money of €7,050 means he still has a lot to do to earn his tour card for 2019.

A things stand Chris is 159th on the Race to Dubai standings with earnings of €136,608 from 21 events played. The top 110 players automatically retain their cards – up from 100 last year.

He started the season well making four cuts out of his first five events including a 6th place finish at the Dubai Desert Classic in January, but after making the weekend on four of his next seven starts, has been in a rut until the event at Gothenburg in Sweden.

The title was won by fellow Englishman Paul Waring in a play-off over Thomas Aiken and was his first European Tour title on his 200th start.
